Rijnmond Energy Center, The Netherlands
In 2002, the Bechtel-ENKA Joint Venture was awarded the Lump Sum Turnkey EPC contract for the Rijnmond Energy Center Project, a combined cycle cogeneration power plant in the Netherlands.
The Rijnmond Power Plant is a natural-gas-fueled facility with a nominal 790 MW net output and consists of two combustion turbine generators (CTGs), two fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and one lateral exhaust steam turbine generator (STG) in a 2 x 2 x 1 configuration. Plant cooling is provided by a mechanical draft, plume-abated cooling tower, with makeup water from the nearby Petroleum Haven, following processing through an Acti-floc clarifier.
The project is the first independent power production project in the Netherlands. The plant is designed to export 125 tonnes/hr steam to the nearby Shell refinery and has capability to export 350 tonnes/hr.
Construction of the Rijnmond Energy Center started in August 2002. Substantial completion was achieved 22 months later in June 2004, five months ahead of schedule.
