As part of an MYP summative assessment activity to investigate the impact of humans on the natural environment, Math students from 7th grade measured the carbon emission of one of their parents’ cars for one month. According to the Kyoto Protocol, they examined the column graphics that show the variation in the carbon release internationally and they expressed in Mathematical language whether the negative variation in carbon release is positive for the environment pollution. Through this exploration in Math class, our students found out that the carbon release from cars and human activities lead to global warming. Students also investigated effective methods of decreasing carbon emissions and creating a more sustainable environment.
