The Dradenau Combined Heat and Power Plant project of the ARGE Uniper-ENKA Dradenau partnership in Germany is progressing steadily. This strategically important project for Hamburg aims to replace the coal-fired CHP plant in Wedel with a new and environmentally friendly CHP plant in Dradenau (KWK-Anlage Dradenau).
The project is based on a 2x2x1 configuration consisting of two Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines, one steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and one additional gas-fired steam generator. Upon completion, the plant will deliver an electrical output of 180 MW and a district heating capacity of 260 MW.
As of May 2025, overall progress has reached 80%, with approximately 900 personnel, including subcontractors, currently working on the project. A total of 1,490,036 person-hours and 288 days have been worked without any lost time incident (LTI).
The works are primarily focused on piping and welding activities, as well as cable pulling operations. In addition, architectural works, façade installation, infrastructure, mechanical, and electrical installation works are also ongoing. Hydrotesting activities for the main equipment have commenced. The target for 2025 is to bring the construction works to completion and initiate the commissioning process.
