On 30 September 2026, the ARGE Uniper-ENKA Dradenau partnership reached a major milestone in the Dradenau Combined Heat and Power Plant project in Germany: the successful first fire of Gas Turbine 1 (GT1). This achievement marks the transition of the plant into its hot commissioning phase and brings the project one step closer to delivering reliable power and district heating to Hamburg.
The plant features 2 Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines, 1 steam turbine, 2 heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and an additional gas-fired steam generator, delivering 180 MW of electrical output and 260 MW of district heating capacity upon completion.
As of end of September 2026, the project is 96.5% complete, with 2.29 million person-hours achieved without an LTI.
With the 4,300-ton structural steel installation of the Power Block and building envelopes completed, mechanical and electrical works are in their final stages, with 149,000 dia-inch welds and 985,000 m of cable pulling completed. Following the commissioning of the Water Treatment Plant and key systems, as well as the achievement of backfeed energization, the first fire of GT1 represents a significant step toward the plant’s full operation.
