The Baghdad Electrical Power Station – Besmaya project is an EPC contract executed solely by Enka Construction Co. on a “turnkey” basis, covering Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Construction, Interconnection, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning & Start up and Performance Testing of the Power Plant. The contract was signed in September 2014 between Enka and Mass Energy Group Holding Ltd. and planned completion date is October, 2017.
Plant is located 25 km in the South …East of Baghdad. It is configured as 2 blocks of 2x2x1 combined cycle (1,500 MW), with an option to expand it to a 4 block power plant (3,000 MW).
The project shall be executed in two phases. First phase is Simple Cycle operation which is to be completed within 26 months and second phase is Combined Cycle operation which is to be completed within 37 months.
The simple cycle part of the plant will consist of four (4) pieces GE 9F 3-series Gas Turbines, all auxiliaries and associated balance of the plant equipment. The combined cycle part of the plant will consist of four (4) Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) including surface type condensers, two (2) nominal rated 250 MW steam turbine generators (STG), two (2) wet type mechanical draft cooling towers and all the requisite equipment and systems for a safe, reliable and efficient combined cycle power generating facility.
As of the end of October, 2015, majority of engineering and PO placement of simple cycle scope are completed, where the combined cycle scope engineering and procurement works are ongoing along with the remaining minor scope of simple cycle. Civil construction works have continued, and major mechanical erection works have commenced. Civil works of Block – 1 & 2 turbine buildings, LDO storage tanks, GTG & STG pedestals, HRSG foundations, U/G facilities and Block – 1 turbine building structural steel erection works have progressed. GT and Generator units have been delivered to Site, and GT – 1 have been placed on foundation as the major achievement in mechanical works.
Total of 12,500 m³ of concrete have been placed and 515 t of structural steel have been erected. Overall EPC progress is around 45% by October , 2015.
