Undertaken by AKTOR & ENKA Joint Venture the Blue City project was primarily a residential and tourism development with leisure and retail elements in Muscat Al-Sawadi Region in Oman. The project was aimed to create a city of world renown as a landmark for the Sultanate for the 21st century onwards.
The project’s scope of work included: design, engineering, procurement and construction work for three 5-star and one 4-star hotels, 4,991 apartments and 202 villas, two Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) world class golf courses, one with 18 and the other with 9 holes including their club house, tourist and heritage villages, one amphitheater podium with gallery & retail units, shopping complex, entertainment and public amenity units such as a primary school, nursery, kindergarten, health centre, police station, fire house, post office and a mosque and all their related modern city infrastructure and landscaping over an area totaling 5.4 km² with 1.7 million m² approximate total gross floor area, which was 15.8% of the overall projected final site land.
An intelligent, elegant layout was devised for the development, which was served by a network of broad boulevards, access roads and parking spaces complete with promenades, wide squares, public parks and green areas, giving residents a feeling of openness and space.
Furthermore, in compliance with its location, the design character of the hotels and the residences reflected and integrated a combination of traditional Omani and modern styles. The Blue City was composed of eight sections, all reflected different types of design, and all afforded sweeping Gulf views of follow the beautiful green expanse of the golf courses.
