
65 km dual carriageway motorway, a part of the South – East Europe Core Road Network, is named as “Route 6”. The project will cross Kosovo from north to south, linking Pristina in the north and ultimately travel south to Hani i Elezit on Macedonian border.
The contract is an EPC contract and Bechtel-ENKA General Partners is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the overall project.
As of December 2016, the site progress was 52%, encompassing the completion of 3 bridges, 16 over-passes, 12 under-passes, 146 box and pipe culverts, 8.8 million m³ total excavation, 5.8 million m³ earth and rock fill, 135k m³ concrete, 373k m³ subbase & CTB, 275k ton asphalt and 81 km guardrail.
The first 25 km section of the road has been completed and opened to traffic on 31st December 2016. Opening ceremony was held at Babush Interchange with the participation of the President of Kosovo, Prime Minister of Kosovo, Head of Kosovo Parliement, Ministry of Infrastructure of Kosovo, several Kosovan Ministers, Turkish Ambassador to Kosovo and US Ambassador to Kosovo.
