
Enka is building the road to the future of Romania between Brasov and Oradea. Autostrada Transilvania will carry cultural and environmental beauties of Romania to Europe where it is carrying welfare of Europe to Romania.
In 2004, Enka and partner Bechtel broke ground on the largest infrastructure project in Europe – 415-km four-lane motorway. Two sections out of eight sections are under construction since 2004. One of those sections is Section 2b (52 km) between Gilau and Luna of Cluj City. The other one is Section 3c (64 km) from Salaj County to Bors of Oradea city.
In November 2009, construction achieved first major milestone of the project with the completion of the 42-km part of the motorway in Section 2b which connects Turda County to Gilau County in Cluj City. Road was inaugurated in the presence of Prime Minister of Romania on the Romania National Day. To achieve the target, project reached to 4500 employees including subcontractors and expatriates and number of construction equipment owned by project reached to 1600. 577,100 m3 of concrete installation, 650,000 tones of Asphalt installation, 1 million m3 of mechanical subbase installation, 12 million m3 of excavation and 6 million m3 of fill with borrow material was performed where at daily peak, 3,600 m3 of concrete and 8000 tones of asphalt, 13,500 m3 of mechanical subbase, 552 meter of pile, 15 U-Beam 160-tone in weight was installed.
Project will continue working to meet client’s objective of completion of 273 km between Targu Mures and Hungarian border until 2012. This Project will be an economic engine for Romania’s development, not only in the construction phase but also for years into the future. Upon completion, it will form an important section of the Romanian national highway system, providing a vital connection with the rest of Europe. The construction of the motorway is particularly important for Romania’s integration into the European economy, and will link the markets of Europe and Central Asia through the Black Sea port of Constanta.
