Çimtaş Steel, fully owned subsidiary of ENKA, has successfully delivered the main process columns of TCO’s Future Growth Project in Tengiz, Kazakhstan, including the 85 m tall Crude Stabilizer, which will be the tallest column in Tengiz Oil Field, and one of the tallest in the world. The load-out operation took place near Gemlik Works, from where the columns will sail to the Caspian via Volga-Don Canal.
The order included three major columns with a combined weight of 1500 ton, the heaviest one being the Crude Stabilizer, with a diameter of 6.5 m and shipping weight of 715 ton. Çimtaş scope covered full mechanical design and transport analysis, procurement, fabrication and FOB delivery (RoRo) of the columns, as well as detailed design, fabrication and trial assembly of some 250 tons of ladders and platforms. The project posed a challenge from a metallurgical point of view as well, with exceptional toughness and corrosion resistance requirements for carbon steels and special composition requirements for weld overlays.
The Future Growth Project represents one of the largest oil & gas projects of this decade and Çimtaş will continue its contributions to this prestigious project, with expected deliveries of four giant Slug Catchers in 2019, each weighing 1000 ton.
