The Morava Corridor Motorway, a 112-km dual-carriageway motorway, including 37 km of river regulation works, designed for speeds up to 130 km/h, runs along the West Morava River valley, strategically connecting central Serbia to Pan-European Corridors 10 and 11.
This new section completes roughly 50% of the 112-km and is estimated to reduce travel times by half, which will accelerate the flow of people and goods, resulting in economic growth and increased investment. The motorway is not only a catalyst for economic growth, but also an opportunity for local communities to develop new skills and grow their businesses.
The first five sections of the project have now been successfully completed, with the coordinated efforts of over 2,200 pieces of equipment, 4,000 personnel, and 1,400 vendors and subcontractors from different countries, all following BEJV’s safety and quality standards. Within the scope of the opening area, a total of 12.6 million m³ of excavation, 6.7 million m³ of fill, 270,000 m³ of concrete, 340,000 tons of asphalt, and 155,000 m of guardrail works have been completed.
This milestone adds to what has been a very exciting year for the Bechtel-ENKA team, having recently won international awards on this project for environmental stewardship, program management and financing.
