In August 1998, the state owned company for electricity generation – EUAŞ awarded the turn-key construction of a conventional-type coal-fired thermal power plant, with a nominal capacity of 1,440 MW to the consortium of ENKA, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI), Babcock Kraftwerkstechnik GmbH and Gama-Tekfen-Tokar JV (GTT).
ENKA-MHI-Babcock-GTT Consortium’s scope covered design, engineering, equipment supply, construction, commissioning and putting into operation of Afşin Elbistan B 1,440 MW thermal power plant.
The project included the construction and installation of 4 steam turbojets, the flue gas desulphurization plant, the slag and ash handling system, the raw water supply system, the water treatment plant, the coal handling system, the cooling system, all ancillary plants, generating plants with their auxiliaries, storage facilities and the necessary workshops, operation and auxiliary buildings as well as all low, medium and high voltage switchgears, control and monitoring equipment and the power transformers. The complete implementation of design as well as tests, trial runs, acceptance tests and maintenance until the temporary acceptance date, the training of all operating personnel and the provision of all necessary consumables were also included in the project.
